I mean the TL gets an ACOG Grenadier gets Aimpoint or something in these
lines or do Units have some of both and they are issued at random or
based on preferences and CO orders?
It depends on the unit. When I was in the 101st we all got ACOGs
including most of our SAWs but we also had access to M68's (M2 or M4
Aimpoints) and a few crappy EOTechs if the shooter preferred a red dot.
In my Guard unit only leaders (Team Leaders and up) get ACOGs and
everyone else gets CCO's. They also let us use personal optics so I use a
TA11 ACOG verses the issued TA31F.

Definitely depends on the unit and the armorer. In my guard unit
almost everyone has Aimpoint M4s. The few acogs were given to those
who shoot expert regularly but they'd already been assigned when I got
there. I'm not sure I agree with that policy but not my choice. I run
an aimpoint on my personal rifle so I have no problem running the same
optic on my issued rifle. What's weird is that we are a forward support
company and the in the cav squadron we support almost all of them have
aimpoint m2's. I'm not sure how we support guys ended up with the
better optics but I'm not complaining...
